Our community – thank you!

We were asked today: why do runners love the Penguin Run?  What a great question! First, it is a very flattering question – it is so nice to hear that our little run is loved! The question also encouraged some reflection.

We feel that runners appreciate that the Penguin Run is an event run by the community, for the community.  We have such an amazing group of volunteers each year.  Many of our volunteers have been with the Penguin Run for years, so they know exactly what to do on race morning. That synergy leads to a consistent experience for the participant; they have come to expect a fun race experience coupled with amazing treats after the run (thanks Cup of Soul Cafe)! The road race is always followed by a youth run, so there is something for everyone. We love having families come out, with mom or dad running the 5k, and then their children enjoying the youth run.

Our sponsors, Strides Health and Fitness and Enfield Pharmachoice, help us keep the race affordable for everyone. In turn, we have a great response from participants. Runners and walkers give back to the community too; today we had runners bring food donations for local food banks, and many participants declined receiving a medal, so we could made a donation to support running at area schools.
Finally, who doesn’t love penguins?!
Thank you again – to all of our participants who bring wonderful spirit to the event – the running community is pretty awesome! To our volunteers, we absolutely could not do this without you! To Strides and Pharmachoice, you are the best! Thank you to Panacea Spring Water for donating water, Ritchie Gilby Construction for the donation of gravel to keep the trails in good condition, and to the Lion’s Club for welcoming 700 participants to their Den!
