That’s a wrap for 2016!

Wow – what a day!  Race day comes once a year, and 2016 was another unforgettable adventure! This post is a shout out to everyone who helped make today happen:

Our Sponsors. Enfield Pharmachoice and Strides Health & Fitness. David Caswell, Leslie Wilbur and their teams are pretty much the best partners you could ask for. They do so much for their communities – the Penguin Run is only a part of the support they lend to the East Hants area. Thank you.

There are many other generous area businesses and organizations that also help us out tremendously. Cup of Soul Cafe puts together some very tasty treats, and allows our limited dollars to stretch way further than they should. Panacea Spring Water donates water to the event ever year. The Enfield & Elmsdale Lion’s Club provides a great venue for us to host a 5K road race and an off road youth run together. C100 and Moya Farrell pumped some tunes and welcomed our runners home. The Enfield Fire Department always lends us a hand. Thank you.

Our volunteers. This whirlwind of a day could not happen without the “Penguin Crew”. Our race is 100% volunteer run – everyone wearing an orange shirt is giving up their Saturday to help out! Many of our volunteers spend many more hours in the lead up to the race: hanging banners, clearing trails, ordering race supplies, putting the finishing touches on bricks, loading pylons, transforming cars into penguins… the list is long, but so too are the hands. It was also great to see so many of our high school students/recent grads helping out today. Thank you.

Our running community. Run Nova Scotia has been great to partner with over the years. A board member of Run Nova Scotia, Mike Bergeron joined us on stilts today to help entertain. Tim and Stacy Chesnutt, area race directors (including EPIC and Sole Sisters), have participated in our event over multiple years. Tim has a great talent with his camera, and generously shares his photos with us. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.602715636562999.1073741852.458877277613503&type=3  Thank you.

Our runners. It was great to have so many positive people at the race today. We know parking is a challenge, and the race route could be repaved. However, I have not heard one complaint about any aspect of the race. It was great of you to choose to spend your Saturday at the Penguin Run – we hope to see you in 2017! Thank you.

Lastly, a personal thank you. Coach Lee McCarron is one of the finest distance coaches in Nova Scotia. Many of his athletes raced the Penguin Run this morning, and helped deliver a competitive field to Enfield. The Penguin Run is about community involvement and participation, and it is great to see that a sharp tip of the spear fits in very well. Thank you.
